Resource person Bendangwala Walling, co-founder, e-Circle with others during the awareness programme on E-Waste management held in Kohima College on September 23.

Kohima, September 23 (MExN): An awareness programme on E-Waste management was jointly organized by Friends of Nature and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in collaboration with e-Circle, Dimapur under the aegis of IQAC, Kohima College on September 23.

The chairperson Temjenrenla Ozukum, Assistant Professor, Department of English highlighted about e- Circle and how the college have been actively participating in many activities like e-waste awareness drive, collections of e-waste, workshops, etc. She mentioned on how such practices and awareness have helped broaden one’s perspective to live a sustainable life, which afterwards she gave the time to the resource person.

The resource person, Bendangwala Walling, co-founder of e-Circle shared a brief introduction on how they handle the electronic and electrical waste. She further explained on the meaning of e-waste, the different kinds of E- waste and how the waste are being handled where she also mentioned that most of the waste are recycled illegally in India by the scrap dealers and other unauthorized parties. The resource person also talked about the e-waste (management) amendment rules, 2016 and accordingly they have been executing their work. E-Circle is the first authorized e-waste collection centre in Nagaland, and so far they have collected and recycled more than 40,000 Kgs of E-waste and conducted 60+ sensitization programs. 

The e-Circle provides different services – recycle, refurbish, treatment, certification, data maintenance, on-site collection, and sensitization programmes. She also presented on the importance of E-waste management and 4R’s of E-waste management which are Rethink, Repair, Reuse and Recycle.

A total of 66 students (1st semester and KCSC executives) and four teachers participated in the programme.
