Electronics recycling collection events scheduled in January : Big Island Now

Do you have old or unusable electronics sitting around your house or office that you want to recycle? Two upcoming Hawai‘i County events are right up your alley.

The Department of Environmental Management Solid Waste Division is conducting special electronics recycling collection events from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at Mr. K’s Recycle and Redemption at 815 Kino‘ole St. in Hilo and Jan. 21 in the Kona Crossroads Shopping Center parking lot at 75-1027 Henry St. in Kailua-Kona.

These free events are open to households, businesses, government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Items that can be recycled during the two events include computers (desktops, tablets and laptops), printers/fax machines, computer peripherals (keyboards and mice), TVs and monitors (CRT, plasma, LCD and LED), uninterruptible power supply systems, mobile and landline phones, digital cameras, VCRs/DVD players and stereo components (no speakers). No other types of electronics will be accepted.

Businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies must make an appointment and detail the electronic devices they want to recycle. There will be a strict limit of one pallet load per business, nonprofit or government agency customer.
