Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, will be our third of four Household Hazardous Waste Collections held in the Dallas Park, 220 Leisure Lane, Dallas.
Be on the look-out for new signs, as we have a new building and a little different approach. You will enter the park as usual, follow the forked road to the right, stay to the right, pass the county stables, and wrap back around to our site. New concrete pad, new building, same old service!
The road is a bit more narrow, so there will be no room to pass the person in front of you. Please have your items ready to unload. To keep things moving smoothly, please place loose items together: cleaners, aerosols and bottles in a box, pesticides in another box and paint grouped together would be easy for unloading.
So, just as a reminder, we take paint, latex and oil, stains, varnishes, roofing cement, caulks, paint thinner, turpentine, old gas, motor oil, gas additives, car cleaners, tire cleaners, kerosene, lamp oil, cooking oil, herbicides, pesticides, insecticides.
Please keep all Household Hazardous materials in their original containers. So many times we get Mason jars of who knows what and it’s unsafe for us as handlers. We do know and understand that many times you could be cleaning out the garage or shed of a family member who may have transferred liquids to other containers, we will still accept, just don’t learn this habit from your family member!
We will take fluorescent lamps, lead acid batteries and rechargeable batteries only; no alkaline batteries, they can be thrown away in your everyday trash. We will also accept propane tanks, helium tanks and fire extinguishers. We will not take other tanks such as oxygen or acetylene, return them to the point of purchase.
Please do not bring us trash, make-up, shampoo or toiletries (nail polish and nail polish remover is flammable, BTW so feel free to bring along). These items are not hazardous!
Remember the definition of hazardous waste means it has one or more of these characteristics: toxic, reactive, flammable or corrosive. Most food products and personal hygiene products do not meet this level of hazard.
We will be checking licenses as this event as it is for Gaston County residents only; this is a household hazardous waste collection, which means no businesses, churches, or schools may use this event. Please follow these rules.
Please remain in your vehicle; we will have enough staff on hand to quickly unload your vehicle; it is dangerous for customers to get out of the vehicle and it will slow the line down. If you have a gas can or oil container that you want returned, we will ask you to park to the side as to allow other folks to move through.
Things we do not accept: electric car batteries; return them to the dealer; smoke detectors; they can be returned to the manufacturer. We do not take any electronic equipment or tires at this event. Tires off the rim can be taken to all recycle centers (except Farmers Market and Duke Street) with no charge.
Electronics can also be taken to the same convenience sites, a $4 Garb Card is required for each item that has a screen (TV, monitor, laptop, etc.).
A medicine drop-off will also be available as you enter the park; prescription and over the counter. No needles, syringes, thermometers, inhalers, personal care products, IV bags, bloody or infectious wastes. Any chemotherapy pills should be returned to the prescribing provider.
