At the event which was conducted between 9 am to 1 pm yesterday, the donors of electronic as well as plastic waste were rewarded with an e-certificate for their contribution to the campaign.
Moreover, the officials were also seen handing out rose flowers to the donors. The pictures from the mega collection drive were shared by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on social media.
Usually, before the festival of Diwali, people clean their houses and several waste items surface during the cleaning, the drive was organised to take those waste items along with any other electonic and plastic waste item from people for proper disposal.
E-waste contains lead, cadmium, chromium, nickel, mercury, and cobalt, apart from any other dangerous chemicals and metals. Plastic and e-waste pollute the environment and are harmful to people’s health if disposed of unscientifically.
Some examples of e-waste are electronic devices like television sets, air conditioners, pen drives, microwaves, headphones, cameras, and mobile phones among other devices.
Moreover, plastic waste including bottles, wrappers, storage containers, toys, polybags, etc. was also collected at the event.
