Nirupam Aich is an expert on environmental nanotechnology. His research focuses on the design of new materials and the impact that nanotechnology-enabled products have on the environment and human society.

Aich’s team develops and tests advanced (nano)materials for removing emerging pollutants such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products and per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water and wastewater.

He is also interested in the environmental and human health impacts of nanotechnology. Among other research in this area, he has partnered on international projects to study pollutants released through e-waste recycling in Bangladesh.
