Rochelle News-Leader | County hosting electronics recycling, paper shredding and food drive event Oct. 15

OREGON — The Ogle County Solid Waste Management Department (OCSWMD) will be hosting a residential electronics recycling and paper shredding event as well as a food drive on Saturday, Oct. 15 at the County Annex Building located at 909 Pines Road in Oregon. This event is for Ogle County residents only, no business or institutional electronics or documents accepted.

Residential electronics will be accepted from 8 a.m. to noon at this event. Accepted items include all televisions, computer monitors, computers and computer cords and accessories, printers, FAX machines, desktop copiers, tablets, cell phones, laptop computers, DVD players and VCRs, satellite/cable boxes, radios, stereo equipment, shredders (no tubs), video game equipment, rechargeable batteries, printer ink cartridges, digital clocks, calculators, holiday light strands and other small electronics. Microwave ovens are accepted for a $5 fee per unit.  Permits are required for the electronic recycling event, obtain a free permit by calling 815-732-4020 or email your name, address and phone number to [email protected].

Paper shredding will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon. No permit is required for paper shredding. Paper shredding is provided by the OCSWMD and is free for residents. All documents will be shredded on site. Limit four banker-size boxes of documents per household.  Remove all paper clips and metal binding materials prior to the event.

Remember the less fortunate in our community and bring a non-perishable food item to the event as well. All donations will be distributed by the OCSWMD to local food panties across Ogle County. Items accepted include non-expired cans and jars of food and boxed food items, as well as household essentials such as sealed toothpaste, soap, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, paper towels and such.
